Train Robbers
|
| | | Partners on the most perilous gold hunt ever. Features: DVD, Widescreen, English, French, Spanish, Subtitled Three Civil War veterans team up with a train robber's widow to recover a cool half-million in hidden gold. The widow (Ann-Margret), the kind who "sticks out in all the right places," wants to clear her husband's name. The three friends (John Wayne, Rod Taylor, Ben Johnson) want to aid her and collect a $50,000 reward. But the dead man's ex-partners just want the gold--and to get it they will kill the lady and her partners if they must. The Train Robbers is a rollicking caper from writer/director Burt Kennedy, who specializes in Westerns with a comic touch (The Rounders, Support Your Local Sheriff). Here he sets a mood of amiable adventure among colorful, well-drawn characters, never stinting on the two-fisted action that's a part of all the best Wayne Westerns. With this straight-shooting cast and creative team on board, you'll find yourself grinning with pleasure--and cheering The Train Robbers. "...emphasizes character instead of action; relaxed performances, twist ending." Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide "...harkens back to the old style westerns Wayne helped make famous." The Motion Picture Guide
Editor's Note
The ravishing widow Mrs. Lowe (Ann Margaret) has just one wish: she wants the gold her late husband stole to be recovered and returned to its rightful owner, restoring her family's good name. The only problem is, she lacks the grit and guns needed to get it back. Lane (John Wayne) is a lightning fast gunman who doesn't sell himself short. When Mrs. Lowe cajoles him to help hunt down the stolen gold, he accepts, thinking it will be an easy day out in the Mexican country. The treasure hunt turns out to be more dangerous than they planned, however, when they encounter the villainous Pinkerton Man (Ricardo Montalban) and his horde of Mexican outlaws. As Lane and Mrs. Lowe search for the stolen booty and evade Pinkerton and his thugs, they develop a curious affection for one another and realize that love is more precious than gold.A western with romance, TRAINROBBERS, reunites director Burt Kennedy and actor John Wayne (they worked together in 1967's WAR WAGON as well). Together they produce a heart-pumping shoot ?em up extravaganza which captures the true color and verve of the wild west.
